My name is Alexandru Ilea. I started taking photographs more than 15 years ago. Even though I admire photographers from various fields like documentary, photojournalism and street photography, the focus in my work is on the visual part and capturing decisive moments.
My education comes from self-study and workshops with various internationally recognized photographers.
I discovered Magnum photographer Nikos Economopoulos some years ago through his photographs from Romania which are part of his Balkanlarda book. He has been a great teacher for me and influenced my photographic journey. Seeing his book has definately had impact on how I photograph Romania.
I've been inspired by many other photographers and while it is not an easy task to mention them all, my favorite ones are Henri Cartier Bresson, Sergio Larrain, Josef Koudelka, Manuel Alvarez Bravo, Alex Webb, Harry Gruyaert, Gueorgui Pinkhassov to name a few.
